The Open Source Course Management Systems' Evaluation focuses on the viability of Moodle and Sakai, the leading open-source course management products, in comparison to Blackboard's systems, which are currently in production across the state. This project is being done in cooperation with the custom papers online project and also with East Carolina University's Platform Project comparing Sakai, Moodle, and Bb Learning System.

The project will assess viability in four areas:

  • faculty and students' practice,
  • functionality,
  • technical considerations,
  • and business concerns

As part of this project and an ongoing commitment to exploring competitive technologies, TLTC also provides campuses with information, access, and training on Moodle and Sakai.
