2001 UNC TLT Conference Overview
Purpose
This event provides an opportunity for communications and dialog among professional groups and faculty throughout the UNC system that have a direct interest in the effective application of technology for teaching and learning.
The Conference is supported by the UNC Office of the President, through funds provided to the UNC TLT Collaborative, a consortial organization of the sixteen UNC campuses, created by UNC President Broad in Spring 2000.
Theme
To evaluate progress, determine expectations, and establish goals for Teaching and Learning with Technology, and, leveraging our common resources, determine next steps to meet these established goals.
This theme will be examined from multiple perspectives, using threaded discussions running throughout the conference. Each track will be led by its own facilitator, with assistants who will capture the information as it develops. To promote discussion, session records will be posted in real time on the UNC TLT Collaboratives web portal.
Highlights
Activities will include
- Keynote speech by Gretchen M. Bataille, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Robyn R. Render, Interim Vice President for Information Resources and CIO.
- Threaded discussions on the philosophy of TLT, current practice, emerging tools and technologies, community building, learning assessment, and the interaction of faculty and TLT professionals.
- Updates on TLT issues and initiatives.
Reference librarians from UNCWs Randall Library will be on-site to provide reference desk services throughout the conference.
Participation
As in last years TLT retreat, which brought teaching and learning professionals together with their peers in instructional technology, the 2001 conference will focus on community building. This years expanded audience will also include faculty, library professionals, and representatives from academic and continuing education programs, as well as additional teaching and learning and instructional technology staff.
Each campus is invited to send eight participants that represent a cross-section of the professional communities identified above.
In addition, the Office of the President, the Faculty Assembly, and the University Libraries Advisory Committee (ULAC) will be invited to send participants, as will the NC Community College System and the NC Department of Public Instruction.
The conference will provide a rare opportunity for these individuals to convene in an intimate setting for the purpose of sharing information. Through cooperative activities, attendees will strengthen their professional relationships by discussing and identifying common issues and best practices and by developing visions and recommendations for future collaborative projects.

The 2001 TLT Collaborative Conference will be hosted by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington on May 2325, 2001 (Wednesday through Friday preceding the Memorial Day weekend).
The UNC TLT Collaborative will cover the costs of workshop materials, two nights accommodations, and selected meals for all participants. Travel costs will not be covered.
To ensure the availability of hotel rooms, participants should register no later than April 20, 2001.
