6  AAHE Summer Academy
The 8th Annual Summer Academy, a week of strategic conversations, action planning, institutional & cross institutional teamwork, mentoring from leaders in higher education, tailored workshops & plenary sessions. Often one of the main challenges to launching institutional change is finding the right time to convene the appropriate stakeholders. The AAHE Summer Academy is designed as a refuge from an often chaotic campus setting, with the advantage of being able to network with other teams working on similar projects. The Academy will enroll teams of 6-10 participants each from up to 35 institutions. Effective team structures in the past included faculty leaders, department chairs, provosts, deans, administrators and students. Projects might originate with an academic department or division, a single college or school, or an academic program. Collaborative projects that cross traditional institutional boundaries are encouraged.

26  North American Case Research Association Annual Conference
NACRA's annual conference is similar to the annual meetings of other professional academic organizations. Its members meet once a year for the purpose of critiquing each other's research. Case research incorporates a case study accompanied by an Instructor's Manual (teaching note). After a case has been submitted, blind refereed, and accepted for the conference, the case is distributed to a small group of casewriters whose cases have also been accepted. Usually these groups, which are formed around similar case subjects or topics, consist of five to seven people. For example, cases focusing on business ethics and social responsibility would be grouped together as would strategy and policy cases, healthcare cases, etc. In addition to the round table discussions, there are always a number of papers presented dealing with some aspect of case research, writing, publication, or teaching. Sessions devoted to developing case ideas and to improving cases judged not ready for pres

31  Teaching Well Using Technology - Faculty Workshop
Teaching Well Using Technology: A Faculty Member’s Guide to Wise and Time-Efficient Use of Instructional Technology is a planning workshop you should attend before the hands-on learning of any particular technology. In our experience faculty have too often spent time learning how to use technology tools without having a clear plan for how the tools would be used. This often results in the time being wasted because the tool is never implemented or doesn't work well because it isn't well suited to the situation. This workshop helps you decide which technologies to learn and try. It does this by helping you reexamine what you’re doing in the classroom: how you can enhance student learning and motivation, use in-class and out-of-class time, plan assignments and tests, and interact with students. It helps you choose technologies that will facilitate good learning and good use of time—yours and your student’s. We view technology as the servant of learning.

34  The 28th Annual Conference of the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education
Conference Theme - Vision, Metaphors, and Images -- Vision: In times of challenge, developing a clear vision and sense of direction for ourselves, a unit, or a profession is a survival skill. One theme for the conference is to explore how to engage a campus or a unit in the development of vision. -- Metaphors are a common tool for re-conceptualizing or building understanding of a topic. -- Images: Academicians are accustomed to relying on verbal, textual information for transmitting our messages. We may neglect images and other senses that are important to our students. For example, we train our students to think critically about texts. How do we learn to think critically about images and other media when technology can easily merge reality and fantasy (e.g., seeing Forrest Gump shake the hand of JFK)?
