Best Practices for Electronically Offered Degree and Certificate Programs
These best practices are meant to assist institutions in planning distance education activities and to provide a self-assessment framework for those already involved. The best practices are divided into five separate components, each of which addresses a particular area of institutional activity relevant to distance education. They are: 1. Institutional Context and Commitment 2. Curriculum and Instruction 3. Faculty Support 4. Student Support 5. Evaluation and Assessment Each component begins with a general statement followed by individual numbered paragraphs addressing specific matters describing those elements essential to quality distance education programming. These in turn are followed by protocols in the form of questions designed to assist in determining the existence of those elements when reviewing either internally or externally distance education activities.
