New Tools help instructors create and maintain websites by Fred Beshears. A history of the process which UC Berkeley faculty have gone through in advancing from a few do-it-yourself web pages to using WebCT. Faculty found that generic authoring tools were not specifically designed for use in instruction and lacked options such as online grade books. Prior to adopting WebCT, the Faculty Internet Service Center staff evaluated four CMS?, reviewed several comparative studies from other schools, and looked particularly at the range of features and support services offered by each vendor. The report identifies unanswered problems and unaddressed issues. In order to keep abreast of new standards, UCB has joined the Instructional Management Systems project Developers?
